AMBULANCE STAFF
Less Work In
June
With 214 fewer patients to carry last month than it carried in May, the St. John Ambulance Association staff was able to take a “breather,” according to the secretary, Mr G. A. Brown.
St. John ambulances carried 2090 patients in June, compared with 2304 in May, and 2038 in June last year. Mileage was down from May’s record of 12,585 to 11,154. Mileage in June last year was 11,582. “The slight decrease in a 30-day month is gratifying,” said Mr Brown. “In a small way it allowed the staff to have a *breather,’ particularly as we still have a hire vehicle to cope with increased hospital work, with no increase in driving staff." Mr Brown said ambulances attended 65 motor accidents last month, and carried 78 persons to hospital. There were also 48 miscellaneous cases. Although these figures were considerably higher than for June last year, they represented 10 fewer motor accidents than in May, and 20 fewer miscellaneous cases.
