Bell, at yesterday's meeting of the North Canterbury Catchment Board. Letters had appeared in the newspapers saying that soil conservation was nonsense. and that there was no erosion, said Mr Bell. These letters had an effect on the public. He was glad to see someone had replied to them, but he wondered whether the board itself should not do more, with greater flexibility for the staff to make replies “Certain professional group: have to put up with silly let ters to the editor almost as stock in trade,” said Dr. W. R. Holmes. He said the board should do as his group did, and appoint someone to male replies. Direct answers, without delay, were required.
