AIRPORT HYDRANTS
Coimcil-Govt. Stalemate fN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 1. The Wellington City Council has reached a stalemate with the Government trying to encircle Wellington airport with fire hydrants. The chairman of the council’s airport committee, Mr M. N. Manthel, said today: “We cannot move without our partners.” The council agreed with the Wellington Fire Chief (Mr W. J. Henderson) that hydrants surrounding the airport were necessary . “But we haven’t the thousands to pay for it,” said Mr Manthel. Since the Government did not appear to consider the scheme necessary the council had to abandon it, he said.
