Last-minute attempts to avert Monday’s statewide stoppage of trains and Government buses
were made at a compulsory conference in Sydney today. With little chance of agreement, union officials are completing plans for the mass 24-hour stoppage from midnight on Sunday. The New South Wales Labour Council last night unanimously approved the strike in protest against the State Government's refusal to grant adequate wage rises. More than 56.000 members of 26 unions will be
involved In the stoppage. Some business Arms are arranging emergency transport to get their staffs to work. The State Minister for Transport, Mr M. A. Morris, today said that many traffic laws would he waived for the day. Private motorists, including truck drivers, will be able to accept payment for picking up people. Texts and hire can may accept amMiple hiring. Mr Morris said motorists eouM park at bus stops; the domain, a big park on tke edge ef the city, will be opened for parting.
