The Junior AH Blacks to play the Springboks at Lancaster Park on July 14 will be announced in Wellington tomorrow evening. This should be a side that will have some bearing on future New Zealand teams but at present there is an air of mystery about it, simply because it is hard to see just who will be in it. In hardly any position are there players who can be considered as certain of selection. An inspection of the nominations for the New Zealand Colts last year and the All Black trials this year shows few established provincial players who fit the requirements for the Junior All Blacks—under 23 and who have not played for New Zealand. It appears the team could contain some odd selections. Two Canterbury players who must have good chances are the half-back, I. J. Davis, and the Old Boys first fiveeighths, T Mehrtens. Mehrtens has not achieved much officials recognition in Christchurch this season but in the North Island, for some reason, he is regarded as a most promising prospect.
