West Germany’s Wo-lfried Peffigen won the first stage of the Tour de I’Avenir cycle race—the event for amateurs and semi-professionals held in conjunction with the Tour de France. I A total of 112 riders set off for the 101-mile stage, which took them from Cologne through the industrial Ruhr region and back to Cologne. The professional Tour de France, which starts on Tuesday .also begins in Cologne.
