LOCAL BODY POLLS

City Misses Chance

The City Council has missed any chance of taking part in experimental procedures for the conduct of polls at the next local authority elections The Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath) said in a letter to the council last evening that under the provisions of the Local Elections and Polls Amendment Act, 1961, which permits the use of a number of procedures by way of experiment at any specified election, a local authority must apply not later than six months before the date of the election. Applications closed on April 9., The council had not applied until April 22. The council agreed that it should ask for time on television and radio to promote interest in the elections.
