Broke Hind Leg
(N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH My Memento (M. J. Dombrasski) was destroyed after fracturing a hind leg during tha running of the Manawatu Steeplechase at Awapuni on Saturday. G. L. Willetts, the rider of Straight Time In the John Dewar and Sons Gold Cup. confirmed the official observation that the horse was unable to respond under pressure over the last six furlongs. Willetts expressed the opinion that Straight Time was not at ease on the holding track. Careen <K. S. Cullen) was sharply checked soon after the start of the Members' Handicap. This was because Toureg (T. J. Rudd) jumped sideways and squeezing Careen up between himself and Very Dry <G. L. Willetts).
As a result of this Incident Careen settled down towards the rear of the field end was unbalanced for some distance.
Rehandicaps (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Equality has been rehtndlcapped 6ib to 8-6 in the Hawere Handicap at the Egmont Racing Club’s meeting on Wednesday.
