Church Parades Yesterday
After a “Duty to God” course held last month, the area chaplains of the Canterbury Boy Scouts’ Association arranged special church services for scouts and guides in Christchurch yesterday The Anglican service was held in the Christchurch Cathedral where the preacher was the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev W A. Pyatt) The Roman Catholic scouts guides, brownies and cubs attended a special Mass at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. This was part of the observance of their “Duty to God” course which was held this week-end.
Presbyterian scouters attended a service in St. Paul’s Church in Cashel street and special services were also arranged for Salvation Army scoots and guides. The area publicity officer for the Canterbury Boy Scouts’ Association' (Mr H. G. Killengray) said that all the services were well attended and future church parades would be organised on the same denominational basis
Twenty-eight scouts and guides attended the Roman Catholic “Duty to God” course held at the Y.M.C.A. camp at Spencerville. The course was organised by the Roman Catholic area chaplain (Father W Ground) and the Roman Catholic Scout Organiser (Mr E. Hughes). It is held annually to instruct leaders how to integrate religious training with the whole scouting programme.
