A record 102 entries were received for the Canterbury judo championships, held at Bryndwr Y.M.C.A. during the week end. For the first time, a provincial championship was conducted In weight dlvistons, as Is done In Olympic competition, and teams’ events were discarded. Most contestants were from Christchurch. No women took part. Final results were: Open (all comers). —A grade T. Stayman beat R. Hanham. B grade: A. Nutbey beat L. Benschop. Heavy weight (over 12st 81b). —A grade: F. Best beat P. Davis. B grade: P. Farley beat N. Jordan. Middleweight (between lost 81b and 12st 81b).—A grade: R Hanham beat T. Stayman. B grade: R. McKay beat L. Benschop. Light weight (not more than lOst 81b).—A grade: I. Kenna beat G. Dickson. B grade: K. Dalzell beat J. Smith. Junior Open (not less than Bst and under 18 years).—A grade J. Feilding beat J. Streeter. B grade: B. McKay beat G. HlnchcMffe Junior Restricted (under Bst). —A grade: L. Tuck beat D Adams. B grade: R. McKay beat B. Ayree.
