Snooker STEVENSON CUP
Potted Black To Win "The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN. June 6 In a thrilling finish Canterbury narrowly beat Otago to win the Stevenson Cup for interprovincial billiards and snooker :n Dunedin on Saturday. After the s>:x matches had been played, three each of billiards and snooker, the st ores were even, and the reserves from the two teams played snooker to decide the match. R Stevenson, who donated the cup. played for Canterbury, against R. Kerr, of Otago. With one colour on the table Kerr led by two points. Stevenson's shot, however, took the black from hard on the cushion and sank it in the top pocket. T. Yesberg, the double New Zealand champ-ion, was extended by L. Napper, the veteran Otago player. Napper matched Yesberg in most phases of the game, but could not contain him in the closing stages. Yesberg won, 960-870. The tournament continues tomorrow with a round robin contest. Saturday’s results (Otago names first) were: Snooker.—G. McCorkindale 6, T. Mintrom 3; F. Dodds 3, D. Hallan 6; M. Kerrel 5. J. Leigh 4. BilCdards: L. Napper 870, T. Yesberg 900; W. Baird 886, W.
