A total of 358 building per- j mits, for new construction or alterations valued at £482,240, was issued in Christchurch during May. There were 53 permits issued for new dwelling houses, valued at £176,445, and 16 permits for new flats.: valued at £101,050. Permits] for other new buildings] [totalled nine, valued at! £69.695. The eastern ward of the ] city was the busiest for the 1 ■ issue of permits for new I [ houses—33, valued at £104,485 j ■ —followed by the southern] iward, with 17 permits valued] lat £54,560, and the northern; ward, with three permits valued at £17,400. No permit was issued in the central ward. For new flats, the eastern ward was also the busiest with seven permits valued at £43,830, followed by the northern ward, with five permits valued at £34,700, and the southern ward, with three permits valued at £15,320. One permit for new flats was issued in the central ward, the construction valued at £7200.
So far this financial year, the total of permits for new construction, and alterations is now 695, with a value of £1,097,365.
