READY SALE IN LONDON
N.Z. Chilled Beef (Special Crspdt. N.ZPA.) ] LONDON, June 4. New Zealand chilled beef, shipped in the Imperial Star and the Port Napier, has sold “very well indeed" on Smithfield Market, realising the highest price for “a long time"—3s to 3s 2d lb for hindquarters and Is 9d to Is Ud for forequarters. It arrived in time to benefit from the general rise in prices for beef as a result inj part of the lower home-killed ; supplies than anticipated. I In the last week prices fori home-killed beef have risen ■ 5d lb—to 2s 7d to 2s Udi lb for hindquarters. Argentine chilled beef has gone up by 2jd lb to 3s to 3s 2Jd for hindquarters. The rise in beef prices has I had a steadying effect on the I market for New Zealand! lamb, which had tended to I show a weakening tendency because of heavy stocks—, 55.800 tons, with no fewer] than nine ships in the London ■ docks or due shortly from I New Zealand. The New Zealand lambi price is firm at 2s 4Jd for; “twos.”
