He scored two halves of 36. Newdick was five strokes behind the leader, Harold Henning, of South Africa, who led Alex Caygill (England) by one stroke. On 69 were a Scot, George Low, and two recent tournament winners. Peter Butler and Jimmy Hitchcock, both of England.
