NO LICENCE NEEDED

Cartage By Farmers I fN Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 3. Farmers carting goods by road between adjoining parts of their farms have been exempted from the necessity to hold a goods service licence. Announcing this today, the Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine) said the Transport Licensing Regulations of 1963 had been ■ amended after representations from various farming organisations. He said the representations had been supported by Federated Farmers. The amendment —which mainly affects the cartage of hay and other crops—will be effective this week by order-: in-council. Mr McAlpine said the regulations deemed two farms to be adjoining if they were contiguous, or were separated only by a river, stream, drain, canal, or other watercourse, or by road, motorway or railway.
