DEBUT IN N.Z.
Top-Dressing Biplane A modern biplane designed as a piece of farm machinery will make its New Zealand debut at Wanganui after June 7. It is the Grumann Ag-Cat which, its manufacturer says, is probably the safest topdressing plane in the world —a pilot has never been killed or seriously injured in one. Since the first production flight in 1957, 208 of these versatile planes have come off the assembly lines. Powered by a Jacobs 300 h.p. direct drive, seven-cylinder, radial engine using 80 to 87 octane fuel, the biplane is all metal, with cotton fabric coverings. With a redesigned engine, a new propeller and a cockpit canopy the operator can have a duster or sprayer, or both. He can also have an I open or closed cockpit. The biplane has a gross take-off weight when loaded of 43751 b, the maximum weight of the hopper load being 16351 b. The plane cruises at 80 m.p.h. and is fully manoeuvrable. It has a fuel tank capacity of 33 American gallons.
