Last year no tyre changes were needed at Indianapolis, and this year Firestone will introduce another new tyre for the event. The new lighter tyres are said to be four to seven miles an hour faster each lap than those used last year, and have a different tread and new rubber compounds. With the help of the new tyres, it is felt the 165-m.p.h. lap may be set this year, compared with last year’s fastest of 159 m.p.h. The new tyres have been tested at up to 240 m.ph. on test rigs, and for 500 miles at an average of 158 m.p.h. on the track. $ S sjt Fastest time of the day in the Ashburton Car Club’s hillclimb at Staveley recently went, to R. Ford has announced plans to market the Mustang in European countries and possibly other overseas markets. The car set a sales record during its first year on the market in the United States. It is planned to export about 14,000 Mustangs in the next year, and these will include cars to be assembled in Amsterdam. Right-hand drive versions may be produced for sale in British and other Commonwealth countries.
