MOULDERS’ AWARD
A minimum hourly rate of 6s 10|d and a top hourly rate of 8s 4Jd, representing increases of 2id to 3d an hour, are set down in a new industrial award for moulders. Adult female workers receive a rise of 7s 6d to a minimum weekly wage of £9 18s 4d, while those under 21 receive increases ranging from 5s 2d to 6s 2d. Youths will receive increases ranging from 5s 8d to 8s a week, the minimum rates now ranging from £5 Ils 8d for those under 17 to £lO 8s 4d for those under 21. The new award will observe January 2 or a day in lieu thereof as a public holiday, and all employees with more than 10 years’ service will receive three weeks’ annual leave. The industrial clothing and footwear allowance has been increased by 6d a week to 4s 6d. The new rates were arrived at by assessors in conciliation council and are effective from May 10.
