JOHNSON, Registrar. 2256 MASSEY UNIVERSITY OF MANAWATU PALMERSTON NORTH FOUNDATION CHAIR IN ECONOMICS A Chair of Economics has been established at the Massey University of Manawatu and the University Council invites applications from suitably qualified persons for first appointment. The University has already, within the Faculty of Agricultural and Horticultural Science, a strong Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management teaching to the postgraduate level. The members of the new Department of Economics will, however, be in the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Professor will be responsible for the development of the teaching of economics as a distinct discipline as well as such integrated courses as the University may introduced. The University provides tuition for extra-mural students in several subjects and it is planned that economics at the more elementary stages will also be made available to such students. The teaching of Economics I was introduced in 1964 and it is expected the enrolments in 1966 will be approximately 40 Salary: In the range £3250 to £4OOO. Applications are invited from suitably qualified graduates in Economies, Agricultural Economics or Agricultural Science for apopintments to: (a) A RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (b) RESEARCH STUDENTSHIPS. These appointments are offered under a post-graduate programme in wool economics which is supported by the Australian Wool Board. Inquiries about the programme may be made of Dr. F. G. Jarrett. The proposed field of study is the economics of the production and marketing of wool. The Faculty of Economics has an active research group working in the general field of wool economics, and good research facilities are available. The FELLOW will be required to engage in full-time research. The Fellowship will be awarded for an initial period of one year, but may be renewed for a second and third year. The stipend attached to it will be determined in relation to qualifications and experience, up to a maximum of £A2200 a year.

The RESEARCH STUDENTS will be expected to work towards higher degrees. Each Studentship will be of the value of £AIOOO a year, and " will be awarded for an initial period of one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Contributions may be made towards the approved travelling expenses of successful applicants from outside South Australia. Lecturer £A2400-£A3170 per annum. Commencing salary will be according to qualifications and experience. Applicants should preferably hold a post garduate qualification in pathology. For appointment as Lecturer experience in morbid anatomy and teaching is desirable as well as an interest in a particular field of research work. For appointment as Senior Lecturer applicants would be expected to have an established field of research and distinguished academic qualifi cations.
