Little Change In Invercargill Wool Prices
(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, May 7. The market for fleece wool and skirtings was quoted in buyers’ favour at the final Southland sale in Invercargill today, with shears and lambs generally unchanged, compared with the recent Christchurch sale, says an official report. The report is issued by the Invercargill Stock and Woolbrokers’ Association in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission.
The report says that 30,000 bales were offered to a full bench of buyers. Originally, 34,259 bales were catalogued, but 4259 bales, consisting of brokers’ bin lots were withdrawn and will be sold in Dunedin next Tuesday. The report says that considering the weather the selection on the whole was better than expected for this time of the season.
Most of the offering consisted of fleece wools, which could be described as average to good average in style, the remainder being lambs’ and second-shear wools and the usual oddments. Some attractive lines of both lambs’ and shear wools were offered, but many lots were unpicked and showed the effects of wet weather. Oddments especially showed discoloration.
Continental buyers dominated the market, with limited support from the United States in shear wools. Bradford buyers were fairly quiet, with Japanese interests centred on Down and Down cross types.
