BOAT SHOW TO OPEN
Biggest Held In S.I.
The South Island’s biggest exhibition of boats and caravans, covering more than 43,000 sq. ft., will open today at Canterbury Court. The official opening by the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) will be at 2.30 p.m. The profit from the show will go to the various water sports in Canterbury. The exhibition is three times the size of any similar previous show in Canterbury. There are about 50 trade exhibitors.
Being at the beginning of the school holidays, the show offered something for all the family, said the chairman, Mr C. N. Todd, yesterday The Canterbury Underwater Club will have demonstrations in a special tank. There will be a display of working models by the Canterbury Model Engineers’ Club, and the construction of various types of boats will be demonstrated. There will be aquariums of saltwater fish, armed forces exhibits, travel displays, a miniature race track, and various forms of entertainment for the children.
The prize-winning boats from the power boat race held last week-end will also be on display. The recently-formed New Zealand Army Band will be in attendance during the afternoon.
The show is open on week days from 6.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and today and next Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
