RED CROSS AT WAIAU
A sheep skin drive, held by the Waiau sub-centre of the Red Cross Society, raised £5l, says a report from the annual meeting.
The group of 59 members paid an assessment of £l5 to the North Canterbury centre, £4O to the disaster fund and £2O to the general fund.
It made a contribution of £3 to Rannerdale Home and Burwood Hospital and £3O to the Save the Children Fund. About 450 articles of clothing were sent to the Christchurch centre for distribution; eggs, fruit, and vegetables were sent to the Good Neighbour Service. During the year members helped with the Red Cross street appeal in Christchurch, on stalls and with the sale of health stamps. Catering was provided for staff of the Mobile Blood Bank when it visited Waiau.
Elderly and inflrm residents of the district were sent Christmas gifts and some meals were provided during the year when needed. A card evening was held which raised £2O for the subcentre's work.
