SUICIDES ON BRIDGE

Coroner Wants Barricade (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 29. A barricade to prevent people jumping from the Auckland harbour bridge was necessary, the Coroner (Mr A. D. Copeland), said today. He was holding an inquiry into the death of Arthur Chilves Trundle, aged 57, a process worker, who was seen to fall from the bridge on April 5. The Coroner said it was the second suicide from the bridge in less than a month. He directed that the attention of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Authority be drawn to the cases with a view to erecting some barricade to prevent a recurrence.

He said it was only after similar occurrences that a wire barrier was erected on Grafton bridge.
