Anthony who was handcuffed to a policeman through-

cut the two-day hearing, pleaded not guilty. After an all-night search by the police, Anthony was arrested in Penrose on March 20, the day after the shooting. Buddy Haami Netana, a member of the armed offenders squad, said he was searching in the Green Park road area at Penrose about 9 a.m. on March 20.

“I heard a succession of shots and a smoky haze came up from behind a building.” he said. “Then Anthony suddenly appeared.” Anthony dropped his rifle when ordered to do so and was arrested after a short struggle. A detective senior sergeant. Brian Walter James, said he had inspected the Mincher residence at 25 William avenue, One Tree Hill, and other houses into which shots were fired on the night of March 19. There were numerous bullet holes in the walls and furniture of the Mincher hoys’ bedroom and he recovered 22 empty .22 cartridge cases from the floor of this room. He also found live .22 and .303 ammunition placed at various points around the house. There was also bullet damage to houses at 23 and 21 William avenue. 5 Garland road and 71 Te Kawa road and a foodmarket in Garland road. The final Crown witness, a detective inspector, Malcolm Thomas Churches, who was in charge of the case, gave evidence of verbal statements made by Anthony when he was interviewed at the

Central police station and also produced a written statement. After an objection by Mr H. T. D. Knight, Anthony’s counsel, the Magistrate made an order forbidding publication of both the verbal and written statements.
