Dismissal Lawful

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 28. In a judgment today, Mr Justice Hutchison held that New Zealand Fisheries, Ltd., was entitled to dismiss, without notice, Robert Cook Alward, a company director, from the position of manag-ing-director of the company. Alward claimed damages against the company for alleged wrongful dismissal. The company asked for a pretrial ruling on a point of law as to its powers of dismissal. His Honour held that upon the admitted facts Alward’s contract of employment as managing-director was not subject to an implied term of service, and that the company could dismiss him without notice.
