JET TRAINER AIRCRAFT

Japanese Type Impresses (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, April 27. „ The Royal Australian Air Force may be equipped with more than 80 Japanese jet trainer aircraft. An Australian evaluation team now in Japan is reported to be favourably impressed with the capabilities of the Japanese machine and arrangements for its manufacture in Australia. The R.A.A.F. needs the trainers to replace the present Winjeel and Vampire trainers. Winjeels are piston-engined aircraft and Vampires are pure jets. R.A.A.F. pilots now do basic training in Winjeels and then transfer to Vampires for more sophisticated training.
