HALCYON’S LAMENESS
Had Muscular Poisoning "The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Halcyon’s trainer. S. A. Brown, has been advised by a leading Auckland veterinary surgeon that his two-year-old suffered from muscular poisoning on the eve of the Wills Championship Stakes. Halcyon was withdrawn from the race when his attendant, P. Corrigan, discovered him lame in his box last Saturday morning and called immediately for veterinary advice. It was found that Halcyon was sore in the muscular region between the hock and stifle. He was running a temperature of 104 and the veterinary surgeon injected him with penicillin almost immediately. Halcyon is still in Auckland, but his temperature has dropped to normal and a good deal of the constriction has cleared up. Brown had the horse X-rayed yesterday, and expects him to return to Woodville in the next day or two.
On his arrival. Halcyon will be spelled at Brown’s property, then kept in light exercise through the winter months. He will not race again until the spring. Brown’s _ other capable juveniles, Jan Eyre and Min Flicka, have also completed their two-year-ojd racing. Jan Eyre is spelling on her owner’s farm at Matamata.
