FROPAX MOVE
Will Close S.C. Food Factory (N Z Press Association) TIMARU, April 27. South Canterbury produce growers want to meet representatives of Fropax, N.Z., Ltd., in Christchurch soon to discuss the proposed temporary closure of the company's food processing factory in Timaru. It was announced yesterday that the company had been forced to take this action because American pea growers had flooded the English market with their produce, forcing values down to a figure at which New Zealand could not compete. The chairman of the process section of the South Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Vegetable and Produce Growers Federation (Mr E G. Talbot) said today that growers had discussed the matter and had agreed to form a deputation to meet company representatives in Christchurch. Beyond saying that thc deputation would have the backing of the New Zealand federation, Mr Talbot would not make any further comments He said he would make a statement after meeting the company.
The managers of both the Christchurch and Timaru Fropax factories were not available for comment today.
