BIG DEMAND FOR CALVES
Pleasant Pt. Sale “The Press’* Special Service TIMARU, April 27. More than 2800 calves were yarded for the annual Pleasant Point calf sale (eastern section). Most were well bred and well grown. A few pens showed the effects of the drought in some areas. The sale was attended bv one of the largest numbers of farmers seen at a Pleasant Point saleyard for many years. The buoyancy of their demand held values to a record level. Top to good calves appeared the most reasonable on the day, small to medium calves realising unheard of values. Heifer calves did not command the same attention but, taken over-all, realised sound values. Polled Hereford steer calves, £lB 5s to £23 ss: Hereford steer calves (pest) £2O 15s to £24 15s, small to medium £9 10s to £lB ss; Aberdeen Angus steer calves (best) £22 to £26, small to medium £l4 to £l9; Shorthorn steer calves (best) £22 to £26 15s, small to medium £l5 to £18: Aberdeen Angus cross steer
calves (best) £25 to £2B, small to medium £l6 10s to £23: Hereford heifer calves £l2 to £26; Aberdeen Angus heifer calves. £9 to £l9: Shorthorn heifer calves, £lO to £24.
