University Blues
Twenty-three New Zealand universities blues were awarded at the completion of the Easter tournament by the blues’ panel, Messrs C. V. Walter (chairman), J. H. Borland, T. E. Eggleton, T. Gault and A. Robinson, which met in Christchurch yesterday.
No blues were awarded for cricket, which did no more than reflect the tournament standard. Abbreviations for universities are:—Auckland (A.), Canterbury (C.), Lincoln (L.), Massey (M.), Otago (O.), Victoria (V.). Awards were:—
Rowing.—A. Dryden (A.), J. Gibbons (V.), T. Gibson (V.), J. Hunter (C.), T. Just (C.), N. Sharpe (O.), G. B. Walford (C.). Swimming.—H. A. Graham (A.), D. Gerrard (O.), J. Palmer (V.). Tennis.—J. B. Souter (V.). Women’s Basketball.—Miss J. Wright (V.). Athletics.—Miss P. Haworth (V.), Miss A. Tong (A.), J. Aratema (A.), J. Beckett (A.), P. Crawford (C.), B. R. E. Jones (C.), B. Milne (V.), D. Monds (A.), J. Power (L.), D. Stevenson (C.), A. Welsh (O.). The A. V. Hill Cup for the best performance below a blue’s standard was awarded to J. Jack (M.).
