Reduced Rates In Malvern District
Reduced power rates for the old Malvern Electric Power Board area were adopted by the reconstituted Central Canterbury Electric Power Board yesterday.
The reductions will apply to all accounts read and rendered after June 1, 1965. The commercial and industrial rates will be reduced to those in the former Central Canterbury board area. The domestic rates will be reduced considerably, but not to those of the rest of the board’s district at this stage. A further reduction to the level of the rest of the district will be made as soon as warranted by an increase in demand, or in any case within five years.
About 1600 consumers will be affected. They will be sent a circular letter setting out the new rates.
At the suggestion of Mr L. T. Griffith, a letter will be sent by the board to the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce drawing the attention of the chamber to the reduced power rates.
