Return Was Difficult
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)
MOSCOW, April 12.
The Soviet cosmonaut, Colonel Alexei Leonov, disclosed today he had trouble getting back into Voskhod II wtih a camera he detached from the outside after his historic “swim” in space three weeks ago. “I thought of leaving it in space, but finally got it in,” he told a Kremlin rally marking “cosmonaut day”—the fourth anniversary of Russia’s first manned space flight. Colonel Leonov was the first man to step into space. When he landed with his companion, Colonel Pavel Belyaev, he said only that his return to the space craft was more difficult than his exit. All 11 Russian cosmonauts were feted at the rally. Mr Leonid Brezhnev, the Communist Party leader, and Mr Alexei Kosygin, the Prime Minister, led 6000 guests in cheering them.
