RED CROSS GROUPS REPORT
Members of the OkukuV.'hiterock sub-branch sent parcels of clothes to Hong Kong, parcels of bandages and linen to Tonga, and parcels of assorted materials to Tamavua Hospital for occupational work last year. This was reported at their recent annual meeting. Officers elected were: president, Mrs J. W. Ensor; vicepresidents, Mrs W. D. Laing, Mrs Esler, Mrs W. Ensor secretary-treasurer, Mrs P. Newton; liaison officer, Mrs J Lundy. KAKOURA More than £l5O worth of a good used garments and new I quilts were forwarded to the I Marlborough centre during I the year by the sewing and | packing circle, and £25 spent ■ on donations. fl Hospital visiting during the ■ year was warmly commended in a letter from the matron, ■'and a small meals-on-wheels
scheme was initiated. A letter from the Ministry of Defence proposing a welfare course was enthusiastically received. An excellent year’s work was reported by the leader of the Junior Red Cross, Kaikoura having won the cup awarded to the Marlborough circle gaining the highest gross total for work done during the year. square rugs, sending parcels to a Greek family, hospital visiting, and assisting with the meals on wheels service, library work and at the Cerebral Palsy school were among activities carried out by members of the Riccarton sub-centre of the Red Cross Society during the year. Donations to Red Cross funds included assessment £2O, emergency cupboard £2, Malayan comforts £5, Asian relief £6, milk powder £lO, library £5, hospital comforts £5.

At the annual meeting it was reported the sub-branch now has a membership of 80. Donations were made as follows: assessment £ll, disabled soldiers £lO, meals on wheels £lO, good neighbours £lO.
