GOOD TRIAL BY KURDLE
Candidate For Riverton
"The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL. Kurdle, a candidate for the Waiau Steeplechase at Riverton on Saturday, gave an impressive display over eight fences of the Riverton steeplechase course yesterday. Kurdle (M. J. Lawson) was accompanied by Collide (W, J. Hillis). They completed a first-class round, jumping eight fences—six brush, the sod wall and the post and rails.
They kept together throughout, with Kurdle jumping the better at each fence. The Kurdistan gelding may not boast much in the way of size but he is a competent jumper. Collide jumped the country safely if not with the same dash as Kurdle. Collide is engaged in both the Waiau and Great Western Steeplechases, but it has not yet been decided which race he will contest. Eight Fences Runty (W. Barr) led Elrick (A. C. Clark) and Sudd El Nil (W. Cleaver) over eight fences—five brush, the sod wall, post and rails and the gorse in front of the stands. Runty was always clear and ran soundly. Elrick gave a satisfactory display and Sudd El Nil, after clearing the first two rather cautiously, jumped much more confidently over the final stages. " The three-year-old, Bell Step (W. Cleaver), gave a neat display over three of the schooling hurdles. She is a Bellborough filly from a Great Western winner in Miss Step and is trained by her breeder, F. G. Sycamore.
