(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. April 12. A 100-year-old gas lamp was burning, for the first time for many years, near the Otago Early Settlers’ Museum in Dunedin tonight The lamp was renovated at the request of the museum.
One of the first street lamps in Dunedin, it is believed to be the only gas lamp burning in New Zealand.
When the museum asked if the lamp could be used again, the Dunedin City Council’s gas department inspected it. and decided that if some parts were replaced it could be lit The work was completed today. From now on the lamp will be lit during normal street lighting hours.
