First-Day Covers
Thousands of first-day covers were carried on the Boeing 707 jet which landed in Christchurch during the week-end. to commemorate the inauguration of the Sydney-Christchurch jet service. The Boeing carried 4300 first-day covers when it landed in Christchurch, and took back to Sydney from New Zealand 5500. Only 80 of the 4300 covers carried from Sydney to I Christchurch bore Australian! addresses, and returned to Sydney aboard the jet. Another 1200 letters in Sunday’s mail bag will return to New Zealand on a turnround flight.
