“AKAROA MAIL”
Negotiations For Sale Arrangements are almost completed for the sale of the Akaroa Mail Company to Mr J. E. Prendergast, who will continue to publish the biweekly newspaper, the "Akaroa Mail.” and carry on the job printing business. He has worked for the company for more than 25 years. The present owners, Mr and Mrs E. G. R. Dobbie, bought the business in 1952. The “Akaroa Mail” is believed to be New Zealand's oldest newspaper continuously published as a biweekly. It was started in 1876 by Mr Joseph Ivess, and owned briefly by Messrs H.
wvaa-vru Lea 9X711J MJ 11. Bridge and C. L. Wiggins before Mr H. C. Jacobson bought the business in 1881. On his death in 1910, his daughter. Miss E. M. Jacolison. and son, the late Mr W E. M. Jacobson, ran the business until 1952.
