War Medals

Sir, —“Merebhimur,” who “knows his onions” on this subject better than most, comments unfavourably on a proposal mooted in Australia to institute a special commemorative Gallipoli Star. Surely to goodness there are enough medals already without further proliferation. Look at the way most of the “top brass,” British, American and others, are plastered with them. For most of us, as campaign medals for the first war, three was the ration; and quite enough. Some time ago General de Gaulle, among the least bemedalled of men, but certainly not among the least gallant, reduced the 90-odd medals of all sorts available to Frenchmen by about 20. Yours, etc., M.T.
