POLITICAL PRESS
Indonesian Ruling (N.Z. Press Association) DJAKARTA, March 29. The Indonesian Government has issued a new press law covering dailies and magazines. Under it all the national press should be owned by Indonesians, and each publication must be supported by at least three political or mass organisations registered at the National Front Organisation. Mr Louis M. Lyons, an American authority on journalism, said in Manila yesterday that flagrant persecution of newspapermen in Indonesia, Burma and Ceylon should be exposed by the world press. Mr Lyons, the former curator of the Nieman fellowships in journalism at Harvard University, said more subtle methods used to control the press in Thailand and Malaysia should also be made known.
