Rolleston House For Sale
The Rolleston House men’s hostel of the University of Canterbury will be sold. The Minister of
Education (Mr Kinsella) has said the proceeds would qualify for a Government subsidy for a new hall of residence at Ham.
The University Council agreed yesterday to give possession in December, 1966,
and appointed Messrs Ford and Hadfield and N. H. McCrostie and Company as joint auctioneers. An adjoining property at 54 Rolleston avenue will also be sold. The Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren, chairman of the finance committee, said the hall at Ham would be near the new Students’ Union building. The sale will involve seven houses (several of them two-
storeyent on about an acre and a half with a five chain frontage covering a whole Rolleston avenue block and three chain frontages back along Worcester and Gloucester atreets. Rolleston House is shown in the right bottom quarter of this picture. Bounded by Worcester street, Rolleston avenue and Gloucester street, the site of an acre-and-a-half has seven large houses on it.
