Lost £770 Betting
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 29. Over a period of 17 months a Paekakariki Totalisator Agency Board agent lost £770 betting through his own agency, Mr M. B. Scully, S.M., was told today. The police said the agent's theft had been discovered when, having lost a large number of big bets recently, he bet on credit in the vain hope of a big “pay-off” to square the agency’s books before an audit could be carried out.
The agent, George Vivian Frank Garraway, aged 33. pleaded guilty to a charge of theft of £770 19s 8d from the T.A.B. between November 1, 1963. and March 12, 1965 Garraway was remanded till April for sentence.
