Infantry Band To Visit Australia
The band of the 2nd Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, is to play overseas for the first time. On April 16, it will leave for a 10-day visit to Australia. The band has been invited by the Australian Returned Servicemen’s League to lead the Anzac Day parade in Sydney. The band has raised its own expenses.
Forty bandsmen and three administrators will make the tour. Major H. T. Deans will be in charge and Captain D. I. Williams will be musical director.
In Sydney, the band will give several benefit concerts for hospitals and aged people. In Canberra, it will perform the ceremony of Beating Retreat and give a concert.
Major Deans says the band has already enjoyed favourable comment in the Sydney press.
