Pearl In Oyster
A piece of unexpected good fortune came to Mrs E. J. Tabb, of Burwood, at the dinner table last evening. She found a pearl in ber oyster.
“There it was hanging on the end of my fork,” she said. “We almost died of shock.” The oysters were the gift of a friend in Bluff. “I cut the rest of them to pieces but found nothing more,” Mrs Tabb said.
Mr G. W. Olliver, manager of Stewart Dawson, Ltd., described the finding of the pearl as most unusual. It was probably a blister pearl which formed on the inside of the shell, he said. It was the first time he had heard of anyone coming across a pearl in that manner. The pearl is one-eighth of an inch in diameter, deep cream in colour and shiny. Mrs Tabb hopes to have it made into a ring. She intends to take it to a jeweller to verify that it is a pearl, and to have it valued.
