Starjohn Succeeds At Thames
(New Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND. Starjohn. a recent recruit to R. Purdon's stable at Pukekohe, took the Goldfields Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Thames Trotting Club’s meeting in Auckland on Saturday night. Starjohn took the lead after about two furlongs and a half and was not headed. He held on by half a length from the outsider, Trespasser, and Stephen Water was a creditable third, a neck back. Revel Time, which looked the big danger at the furlong, was close up fourth. Opeka put up a splendid performance from 60 years to win the second leg, the Twohill Memorial.
