Gerrard Reaches Final Of Mixed

CARACAS (Venezuela), March 27.
The New Zealand tennis champion, L. A. Gerrard, and Miss H. Schildknecht, of Germany, have reached the final of the mixed doubles in the Caribbean circuit tournament.
They beat the French pair of P. Barthes and Miss F. Durr, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. They will meet D. Ralston, of the United States, and Miss M. Smith (Australia) in the final. Ralston and Miss Smith beat R. Holmburg (U.S.) and Miss N. Bayion (Argentine) 6-1, 64. In an earlier match Gerrard and Miss Schildgnecht eliminated I. Pimental (Venezuela) and Miss E. Krocke (Netherlands), 6-3, 3-6. 6-3. Miss Smith won the women’s singles when she beat a fellow Australian, Miss L. Turner, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. Miss Smith," who was top-
seeded, turned on her power in the second set and overcame Miss Turner with a flashing service and aggressive drives. The men’s doubles title went to the Brazilian pair of R. Barnes and T. Koch in an upset win over the favoured Australian-French team of F. Stolle and P. Barthes, in a tense, 3-6, 9-11, 6-1, 64, 64 game. In the quarter-finals If. Froehling and Ralston beat Gerrard and P. Damon, of France, 10-8, 2-6, 7-5. Froehling beat the topseeded Stolle in a men’s singles quarter-final.
