TROTTING Convertor -Notulas Fancied At Methven

Now that the Kaikoura stablemates, King’s Cord and Prince Cord, have dropped out of their respective fields for trotters at the Methven Trotting Club’s autumn meeting today it has sctrengthened the possibility of victories for Convertor and Notulas. Both raced well at the Cheviot meeting last week and it will be surprising if they fail to show up again.

Convertor will be trying for his second win of the season and will also be trying to improve on a last start third when he contests the Lyndhurst Handicap. Although he lost form for a time during the summer Convertor’s placing behind Prince Cord and Marshella at Rangiora last Saturday was most encouraging and he should soon extend his record.

Hialea was a disappointment at Rangiora but the shorter distance in this race should suit her better. She might be the hardest for Convertor to beat.

Mystique, Van Brown, Wayren, Lillian’s Star, and Macrae are others expected to race prominently. Notulas, a solid finisher for fourth to Prince Cord, Marshella and Convertor in the Southbrook Handicap at Rangiora last Saturday, is expected to gain her third win for the season in the Lauriston Handicap. If Notulas is successful it will be a popular victory for she is prepared by her owner, C. V. May, at Methven. Break Through failed at Washdyke at his most recent start, although he trotted a fair race for fourth. He is one of the most promising young trotters in commission and he could take beating in this field.

Seven Nights, from 60 yards, Our Debbie, from 36 yards, and Marcus Aurelius, also from 36 yards, are others capable of taking part in the finish. The double will be run on the J. MeCloy Memorial Handicap and the Springburn Handicap. Quesnel, Belle Vue and Mile End form a likely trio in the first leg, while Royal Melody, Megaton and Snowline appeal most in the second leg. Fair weather is forecast and the track is expected to be in good order, if a little on the slow side.
