Losing Status Symbols
One quaint privilege a British peer still has is a silk cord instead of the usual hemp rope when he is hanged. The Duke of Atholl has the right to be hanged from a gallows 30ft higher than anyone else. Both privileges will disappear soon if a nohanging bill now going through Parliament becomes law.
