FLOOD OF MIGRANTS
Britons For Australia
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, March 1. More people want to emigrate from Britain to Australia judging by increasing applications reaching Australia House in London. Australian officers say applications are averaging more than 500 a day this year. This indicates that a new record will be set for emigration from Britain to Australia. Officials are confident of reaching the target of 70,000 departures under the assistedpassage scheme before the financial year ends on June 30. With thousands more paying their own fares, the total number of Britons going to Australia is expected to go above 80,000—a record slightly above last year’s figure for passages.
