Minor Fires
A rubbish fire at the back of the premises of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association, of Canterbury, Ltd., 183 Riccarton road, yesterday caused no damage. Sockburn and Sydenham firemen answered the alarm given at 11.44 a.m.
A grass fire on an empty section, 23 Rouses road, at 2.4 p.m., was put out by Woolston and Headquarters firemen. Another grass fire in Scruttons road, Heathcote, at 4.22 p.m. was put out by Woolston and Sydenham firemen.
Later, the Christchurch Fire Brigade received four calls to rubbish fires within half an hour when the wind suddenly changed to the south-west and blew in strong gusts. All the fires were put out before they caused damage to property. At 8.16 p.m„ firemen were called to a rubbish fire in Shrewsbury street: at 8.17 P.m. to one in Days road, Halswell; at 8.30 p.m. to a third one on the premises of I dustrial Projects, Ltd., Garlands road, r.nd at 8.37 p.m. to the fourth one on property at 143 Riccarton road.
