WON, BUT NOT IMPRESSIVE
Star Of Heaven In Sprint (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE. Although he ran smart time and won the Hawksburn Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday Star of Heaven’s performance was not an impressive Newmarket trial. With lib more than his Newmarket weight (Sst 111 b) Star of Heaven took charge in the first furlong to beat Picca by a length with Rashlore a head away third. Star of Heaven showed the improvement expected of him after he was beaten by Marmion in the Lightning Stakes at Flemington over five furlongs at weight-for-age a fortnight ago. He has a week in which to improve on this run and, judging by his soft appearance (he was sweating profusely when he came back after the race) he Is capable of doing that. Rashlore, which will meet him lib better in the Newmarket, finished “like a train” and Picca, which will meet him 41b better, was also doing good work in the last stages. Star of Heaven, which was always favqurite, ran the six furlongs in Imin 9 4-ssec.
